COT data indicates extreme sentiment across the board. The situation is tricky though as sentiment extremes can last for weeks. The readings suggest that USD bulls keep risk tight in case of a reversal.

Oil’s steady, rising trend channel of the past week was brought to a close in the morning hours of Friday’s session. From Thursday’s high (set near the end of the day after the Greek bailout news filtered through the market), the active NYMEX futures contract fell as much as 4 percent before bulls stepped in pushed the market well off its lows.

The EURUSD has continued lower against the US dollar but commodity currencies have rebounded.  Inside weekly bars on the AUDUSD and NZDUSD may represent consolidation before the next decline.

Consumer prices in the U.K. are forecasted to rise to an annualized rate of 3.5% in January, which would be the highest rate of inflation since November 2008, and the marked rise in price growth could stoke increased volatility in the exchange rate as the Bank of England maintains it dual mandate to ensure price stability while fostering full-employment.
